Tomorrowland Rides and Attractions

One the most popular lands in all the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is Tomorrowland. This exciting area was part of the original park opening and has some of the parks best as well as most most thrilling rides and attractions. After walking down Main Street USA, guests make a right at Cinderella’s Castle and head directly into a retro-future “tomorrow that never was”.

At this time there are eight (8) individual rides and attractions as well a number of shopping and food & beverage options. Tomorrowland is constantly evolving with the newest attraction at the Magic Kingdom in TRON Lightcycle / Run. Prior attractions that are now longer open include ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, Flight to the Moon, Skyway to Fantasyland, Circle-Vision 360, iCan Robot, Push the Talking Trash Can and Stitch’s Great Escape.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

Recently opened in April 2023, TRON Lightcycle / Run is the newest “thrill ride” attraction at the Magic Kingdom. Riders take a high speed motorcycle ride in a cyber-fil world following the events of the move TRON: Legacy.

To ride TRON you will need to make a reservation in a Virtual Queue in the My Disney Experience app. The virtual queue opens at 7:00 AM and at 1:00 PM every day and guests can request to entire no more than once per day during normal park hours. Lighting Lanes are available for purchase and a park reservation for the Magic Kingdom on that day is required to access the virtual queue.

The attraction takes riders along a 3,100+ track that travels both indoors and outdoors at speeds of up or 60 miles per hour. Riders must be a minimum of 48 inches in height to ride.

Space Mountain

The original thrill ride at the Magic Kingdom is Space Mountain. This attraction originally opened in January 1975 and it is an indoor themed roller coaster that takes riders on a journey deep into space, flying past stars and planets.

Riders must be 44 inches or taller to ride Space Mountain and wait times typically range from about 45 minutes to more than an hour. Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes and individual Lightning Lanes are available for purchase.

This classic Disney attraction is also one that can’t be missed during your next visit.

Astro Orbiter

Riders will enjoy flying high above Tomorrowland on the Astro Orbiter. Located above the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover, this rocket spinning carousel type ride offers some of the best views in all of the Magic Kingdom.

The Astro Orbiter does not have height restrictions but due to its limited capacity, wait times can easily exceed 30 minutes to more than 60 minutes depending the crowd levels that day. Unfortunately Lightning Lanes are not available on this attractions.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

One of our favorite theme park shooting rides is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Riders will use their laser cannons to shoot the evil Zurg and his aliens, trying to score enough points to become a “Space Ranger”.

There are no height restrictions to ride this attraction and wait times are generally exceed 30 minutes on a typical day. Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes are available for purchase.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover

One of the most underrated attractions at Walt Disney World is the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover. Guests enjoy a leisurely 10-minute ride above Tomorrowland and through Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin as well as past the Star Traders shop.

There are no height restrictions to ride this attraction it is a great way to take a break from the crowds. Although Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes are not available for purchase they are usually not needed as wait times are generally does not exceed 20 minutes on a typical day.

Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor

Guests join Mike Wazowski and his friends for a good time at Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. Guests go inside the laugh factory in Mostropolis for a themed interactive comedy type show and guests can text jokes to Mike to become part of the show.

This attraction does not have height restrictions and is suitable for guests of all ages. Wait times range from 20 minutes to more than 40 minutes depending the crowd levels that day and Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes are available for purchase.

Tomorrowland Speedway

Riders on the Tomorrowland Speedway get behind the well of a gas-powered car and cruise around the speedway’s track. You will pass Space Mountain as well as TRON Lightcycle / Run while racing other drivers on this family-friendly attraction.

The Tomorrowland Speedway is designed for younger guests but is limited to riders 32-inches or taller (accompanied by a companion rider who is at least 54-inches in height). Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes are available and wait times typically range from less than 25 minutes to more than 40 minutes depending the crowd levels that day.

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress made it’s original debut at the New York World’s Fair in 1964-1965 under the name “Progressland” before it was moved to the Magic Kingdom park in 1975. This is another underrated attraction which tells the story of a traditional American family in four distinct periods, highlighting how modern conveniences have changed the way they live.

Although Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes are not available for purchase they are usually not needed as wait times are generally does not exceed 20 minutes on a typical day.

Shopping and Dining

As of early 2023 the only sit down dining venues within Tomorrowland are Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe’ and The Lunching Pad. The Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant has not been open for several years but was the site for the magic Kingdom 50th Fireworks Dessert Parties.

Cosmic Ray’s is a quick-service dining restaurant located in the heart of Tommorrowland. From burgers to chicken nuggets and sloppy joes, diners will enjoy listening to the music of “Sonny Eclipse” – an animatronic that entertainers the guests. The Lunching Pad is located directly under the entrance the Tomorrowland People Mover and offers a variety of American fare including hot dogs and sandwiches. There is only outdoor seating available at The Lunching Pad.

Additional food and beverage venues include Cool Ship, a quick-service snack venue, and Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies which serves a variety of ice cream and desserts.

Visitors will be able to purchase specialty merchandise and souvenirs of your favorite Disney stories at Star Traders. The store has a number of themed items include apparel, toys, snacks and housewares.

There are also gift shops in several of the attractions including Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Space Mountain and TRON Lightcycle / Run.

Tommorrowland Character Meet & Greets

Guests will find a number of different characters at the Rocket Plaza Stage which is located behind the Astro Orbiter and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover.

The characters are located on the stage so while guests can get up close and personal, it’s a great place for a photo op and some general interaction. As of early 2023, the only two characters we have found in Tomorrowland is Buzz Lightyear and Stitch.

These resort hotels are all located adjacent to a Walt Disney World theme park (Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom) and offer easy access to that park as well as superior amenities and accommodations.

In addition Disney’s hotels and resorts, there are a number of other hotel options including the hotels in the Disney Springs Resort Area and those within the Bonnet Creek Resort.
