Test Track at EPCOT (Walt Disney World)

Test Track officially opened in 1999 replacing the World of Motion Ride and is considered one of the most exciting rides in of the Walt Disney World theme parks.  If you love cars and speed, then this high octane dark ride was designed for you.

Guests are able to design their own concept car or “SIM Car” on a high-tech computer (pre-COVID of course) before taking a their car for a ride on the test track itself.

Sponsored by Chevrolet and located in Future World at EPCOT, Test Track is one of the most popular rides at the park and always has extremely long wait times. Unless you can get a FastPass+, we highly recommend that you visit this attraction first thing in the morning immediately after rope drop.  Otherwise, you may literally spend hours waiting in the queue.

Queue and Design Studio

To help the time pass, Disney designed a highly themed queue which modeled after Chevrolet’s Design Studio.  Guests will find a variety of different concept cars as well as photos of futuristic vehicles.

Once inside the Design Studio itself, guests get down to business of designing a specific SIM Car on the touchscreen monitors (again, pre-COVID).  Options include a variety of vehicle designs including high performance cars as well as trucks.

These designs are measured on the Test Track based a set of four different criteria: Capability, Efficiency, Responsiveness and Power.  Once complete (there is a limited amount of time given to make the design), guests scan their MagicBand or park ticket to be able to evaluate their specific design when riding on the SIM car.

The Ride

To test their SIM Car designs, guests board a six-passenger ride vehicle (two rows of three seats) and strap in for a seat belt check before taking a 4+ minute ride to put their SIM cars through a series of tests.

The first test is the capability test where the vehicle accelerates into a rain storm before skidding out of control. Additional testing of accelerating and turns occur prior to the calculation of the capability tests score.

The next two tests are the efficiency and responsiveness tests.  The efficiency test looks for aerodynamic efficiency with “hyper-spectrum imaging” while the responsiveness test takes rides on a series of high speed turns.

The ride caps off with the much anticipated power test. The power test takes riders outside the Test Track building for a high-speed pass of up to 65 miles per hour on banked turn around the employee parking area and the building itself.

After the Ride

Like most theme park attraction, Test Track let’s guests out into a gift shop.  But this gift shop includes the “Chevrolet Showroom” where guests can get up with the latest models of featured Chevrolet cars and trucks.

In addition to the vehicles, there are a number of interactive experiences (pre-COVID) and souvenirs just outside of the Chevrolet Showroom.
