The Jurassic World VelociCoaster – Universal’s Islands of Adventure

The all new Jurassic World VelociCoaster is an amazing roller coaster  that recently opened at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida.  Located on the site of the former Triceratops Encounter, this coaster will take guests on an amazing thrill ride through the parks raptor paddock where you will soar up to 70 miles per hour and more than 150 feet up in the air, passing velociraptors as you speed by.

Manufactured by Intamin (also the builder of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure) this attractions is located adjacent to the Jurassic Park River Adventure and the Jurassic Park Discovery Center on the site of the former Triceratops Encounter.  The VelociCoaster will be an excellent compliment to the Jurassic Park section of Islands of Adventure as well as the parks thrill rides as a whole.

The ride itself features 4,700 feet of track length with which will have four inversions, two high speed launches, up to 12 airtime moments and a 155-foot tall top hat (90-degree ascent followed by a 90-degree descent).  The ride vehicle will consist of six cars which will seat 24 riders per train (four riders per car – two rides wide by two deep).

Construction originally started in early 2019 and the VelociCoaster will be open to theme parks guests as of  June 10, 2021.  We would anticipate that wait times will easily exceed two hours during the first few weeks (or even months).

Timing could not work out better for Universal as it will have to compete for vacation travelers during Orlando’s busy summer months.  With a host of new coasters having recently opened or coming soon, this themed coaster will definitely be the one of the ones to watch.
