The Complete Guide to the Disney Lightning Lanes (Multi Pass and Single Pass)

Starting July 24, 2024, the Genie+ service that is used at the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks is being reimagined as “Lightning Lane Multi Pass” and “Lightning Lane Single Passes”.  Disney’s stated goal for these new services is to help guests navigate their day at the theme parks to make the experience more fun, productive and enjoyable.

Guests will now be able to reserve attractions in advance of having to wait for the day of their visit.  Disney states “Lightning Lane passes will blend features from the Disney Genie+ services and the previously offered FastPass+ service, giving guests the choice to plan ahead and removing the hassle of planning during their vacation”.

What is the Disney Lightning Lane Service?

Disney Lightning Lane passes is a paid service that allows guests to skip the traditional standby queues and join shorter queues with lower wait times.  This new service offers guests two different ways to purchase and reserve arrival windows using the Lightning Lane entrances.  The two options are

  • Lightning Lane Single Pass
  • Lightning Lane Multi Pass

The new Disney Lightning Lane Single Pass allows guests to pay-per-ride to skip the line for certain in-demand attractions at Disney World. This pass can be purchased individually and does not require the purchase of the Multi Pass. Guests can secure a time to ride one attraction at a time, up to two (2) attractions per day.

The new Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows guests to pre-book up to three (3) Lightning Lane experiences per day at one of the theme parks at Walt Disney World. This pass provides the convenience of shorter wait times for select attractions across the Walt Disney World theme parks. Guests have the ability to purchase and manage their Multi Pass selections through the Disney app.

Guests can select an initial Lighting Lane selection up to three (3) days in advance of of their park visit.  Disney resort hotel guests including Shades of Green, the Walt Disney World Swan and the Walt Disney World Dolphin can make an initial Lighting Lane selection up to seven (7) days in advance of of their park visit.  After using the initial selection, guest can make an additional selection.

Guests will be able to see prices and available attraction times before purchasing Lightning Lanes.  can purchase both the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and up to two Lightning Lane Single Passes on the same day.

What is Cost of the Lightning Lanes?

Prices for the new Lightning Lake passes is based on a variable pricing model and will vary by the date, individual theme park, and  attraction.  Single Lane passes are anticipated to range from around $7 to $20 per attraction. Multi Lane prices typically ranges from $20 to $25 per guest per day. 

Lightning Lane prices will be available in the My Disney Experience app on the home screen.

Is Disney’s Lightning Lanes similar to Universal Express?

While Disney’s Lightning Lanes have some similarity with Universal Express at the Universal Orlando Resort is that they both are premium (additional charge) add ons, there are some very significant differences.

First off, the cost of Universal Express (once per ride) starts at $69.99 per person per day and can go as high as $299.99 for Universal Express Unlimited (unlimited number of rides) while Multi Pass Lightning Lanes starts at $20 per person per day.   

Additionally, Universal Express does not require advanced time reservations.  If a particular attraction is open for Universal Express, guests can just walk into the specific attraction pretty much any time during the entire day.  As a result, we see Universal Express is a more spontaneous option than a complete planning of your day.
