Located in the Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is a 3D motion simulator type attraction that brings great thrills without the intensity of huge roller coaster. This attraction originally opened in 1999 and is one of the original rides at Islands of Adventure.
Rider go on a four-minute adventure with Spider-Man, soaring above the streets and high-rise buildings, battling the villains of the Sinister Syndicate who have captured State of Liberty with an anti-gravity gun. Lead by Dr. Octopus, the four other members of the Sinister Syndicate include Scream, Electro, Hobgoblin and Hydro-Man. Riders will also see a cameo appearance of Marvel creator Stan Lee.
The attraction underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2012 with new high definition video, replacing the original digital film projectors. These upgrades really gave the ride a modern feel, further enhancing the entire experience.
The Queue
Riders enter the Daily Bugle building and into a series of different offices including an old school style photography “dark” room. There are plenty of references to the Spider-Man comics / movies that fans will find enjoyable as they make their way through the queue. There is even an tribute to Stan Lee as photos, mementos and flowers being found on a desk.
The Ride
The ride itself is a 3D motion simulator dark ride which located in a full enclosed (and air-conditioned) building the attraction continues to operate during inclement weather.
Riders board a three row, 12-person ride that starts out with Daily Bugle Editor-in-Chief Jonah Jameson telling the guests about “crime reports” and to keep an eye out for Spider-Man. Spider-Man briefly appears, followed by a quick cameo of Stan Lee,
As you can see from the video, there are a number of quick twists and turns on the attraction along with a simulated drop so if you are a rider that gets motion sickness easily, you way want to take a pass on this ride. Otherwise, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is suitable for most visitors.
